If you are a chamber musician, the list of shoulds are different still. At minimum you need to audition with a Mozart concerto, a Romantic concerto, and you would focus a lot on excerpts. If you are an orchestral violinist, you most likely have studied some/many of the war horses, not all of them, and you wouldn't necessarily have them under your fingers and playable at a moment's notice. If you are a soloist, you probably need to know all the war horse concertos, all the solo Bach, a good number of sonatas, anything else that would put together a marketable program. It's more important to be at a level to able to teach yourself a particular concerto or repertoire than to learn them all. Not all students study exactly the same sequence or list of repertoire.
